Checklist for a Successful Visit

Making Your Visit Reservation

Fill out the Group Visit Registration Form or call 800-659-1727 or (804) 864-1400, press 2. Remember to make your reservation at least two weeks in advance. If you have any special needs, please let us know when you make your reservations. The Aviation Museum is handicapped accessible. You have a reservation only if you have received a reservation confirmation, which will be mailed within one week of reservation requests. You must bring the confirmation with you on the day of your visit.

When you receive your Group Leader Confirmation Form, please review it and notify us of any changes. Payment may be made upon arrival; you may prepay or ask to be billed.

Planning Ahead

Chaperons are required

One adult chaperon for every five students is admitted to the museum at no charge. One chaperon for every 10 students is mandatory. Chaperons must be 18 or older and must stay with their assigned group during the entire visit. Please make sure that chaperons know the students in their group and that the students are divided into groups before they arrive at the museum. Bus drivers are admitted to the museum and theater at no charge when they are with a school group. If you have questions regarding this policy, please e-mail the Group Marketing Center or call 800-659-1727 or (804) 864-1400, press 2

Nametags are required

Nametags must include the school’s/organization’s name and chaperon’s name. Student names are optional.

Schedule your time

When planning your trip to the museum, expect to spend at least 90 minutes touring the exhibits. You may want to include extra time for special events such as videos or demonstrations. Be sure to allow 15 minutes for check in, 15 minutes for departure, and another 15 minutes to visit the Virginia Aviation Museum store. We have a wonderful selection of aviation books and videos, as well as gift ideas.

Lunch

Your group may picnic on the museum’s grounds; however, there is no place to eat inside the museum, even in case of inclement weather. We appreciate your cooperation in picking up and disposing of all trash. There are a variety of quick service restaurants nearby.

Upon Arrival

Check in and orientation

Group leaders must check in at the Admissions Desk. Please have an accurate head count including the number of children, chaperons and bus drivers in the group.

Payment

If you are paying upon arrival, payment may be made by check, Visa™ or MasterCard™ or cash. Please have cash counted out in advance, with large quantities of coins in rolls. Prepayment or billing must be arranged in advance.

Coats, backpacks, cameras, radios and headsets

Radios and headsets must be left on the bus. Weather permitting, please leave coats and backpacks on the bus as well. Cameras are welcome in the museum, and we encourage groups to take pictures everywhere.

During Your Visit

The museum is self-guided; however, we will make every effort to arrange a tour guide available for your visit. Our guides volunteer their time and skills. Please stay with them and feel free to ask any questions.

Please help us care for our exhibits by not touching any aircraft.
